Aim & Objective

Shanthiniketana rural development society(SRDS) involuntary Organization working for the education, health, women empowerment and Migrant communities in Karnataka state.
Underprivileged communities, especially with children and women. SRDS was initiated with a view to evolving information and making linkage between the villagers and the government. We believed that knowledge would lead to awareness, which would further lead to self-development, empowerment and action.

History

Shanthiniketana rural development society(SRDS) came into existence as a result of the motivation and personal initiative of its founder, Mr Rahul Kumar, to enhance the socio-economic status of the underprivileged people. Hailing from a rural family, the founder was no stranger to hardships faced by the underprivileged. Having overcome economic and social challenges, due to the backing and economic blessings from certain elder society leaders, the founder set out to do his best to make a positive difference in the lives of fellow underprivileged. Working with a team of committed people, SRDS aim has been to secure integrated development through people’s participation. The key areas identified for interventions include child rights, education, health and hygiene, sustainable livelihood, and women empowerment. Our efforts have developed lasting associations with government, nongovernment and corporate organizations as also with the communities and groups with Whom we have worked.
We have come a long way following a small beginning in Sept 2014, and have implemented a wide variety of projects related to child rights for change, reproductive child health care, quality education, watershed development, wasteland development, tribal development, low-cost sanitation, alternate energy sources, self-help groups, vocational training to youth, and women empowerment in Yadgir and Bangalore Urban Districts of Karnataka state in India. While implementing different developmental projects, our thrust has always been on working through people’s participation. At SRDS, we have always believed in the capacities and capabilities of the communities, and have always strived to channel their hidden energies for the betterment of society at large. Our efforts have always been directed toward creating an environment that is conducive to enhancing opportunities for local people to think and act positively. We have always endeavoured to develop the skills and competencies of the local communities to enable them to operate and maintain the assets created through the implementation of the projects on a sustainable basis. Our philosophy has led us to adopt a holistic and participatory approach to rural development. We believe in an inclusive approach, covering all the sections of society, particularly the underprivileged, in a village. We work with the existing village level fore (and create new ones wherever necessary) through Participatory Rural.

The SHANTHINIKETHANA RURAL DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY STORIES

Transforming one community at a time

Even in 2013 India, many segments of our population continue to be invisible and hence, unnerved or underserved.
The urban poor is invisible — most of them migrants, most illiterate, and the voiceless service economy. They lack access to most government programs for the poor and do not have the attention of the city administration.
They belong to none; they are attended to by none. And it was to address their needs that the Shanthiniketana rural development society was founded in 2013
Their poverty is generational and multidimensional and our many engagements with them have convinced us that their only chance of exiting poverty is through education. We also feel that the right environment — infrastructure, livelihood, healthcare, sanitation, recreation — is important for education to be welcome and effective. We also work on financial literacy for women and social inclusion.
By the end of 2015, SRDS NGO Is Working would have connected with over
1 million people through our programmes —
transforming one community at a time.
In 2013 Shanthiniketana rural development society (R) started working together to understand how to serve the poor. Together we focused on the social aspect and the financial institution set up to benefit the communities.

2014 We set up the UUPP to address the requirements of the high percentage of ultra-poor families who did not even have an identity. To create long-term change, we needed to integrate services that gave them basic human rights from healthcare, and education to livelihoods.

2015 To create meaningful change, it was critical to work with the children in the communities we were involved with. It was key to breaking a vicious cycle of poverty across generations. We started the Academic Adoption Programme to provide academic scholarships, access to quality schools, career guidance and placement support.

2016 It was important to translate the change we saw at the family level to the community as a whole. We started expanding our focus to the infrastructural requirements of migrant urban communities. This put the beneficiaries in the driver's seat as they determined the neighbourhood’s needs collectively. Our partnerships with peers and knowledge partners helped reach 5 districts in Karnataka state Bangalore urban and rural areas, Gulbarga, Raichur and Yadgir District of Karnataka state

2017 To address ultra-poverty, it was essential for us to find a partner who understood our beneficiaries and their financial needs. SRDS was the only financial institution willing to scale a programme where it was integrated into the system by offering its products and services to help reach customers and beyond.
2018 Shanthiniketana rural development Society working migrant community and health service in north Karnataka district because north Karnataka district is a very backward district education, health, and women empowerment project we will start in a rural area of Yadgir district and its very tuff challenges for our work with rural people.

2019 in the year we focus on the empowerment of children in livelihood throughout Karnataka state in computer training class skill development and workshop conducted with youth and children to create awareness about govt schemes and information given by how to get the scheme easily.

2020 in the year enter the word facing big health issue in Covid19 very short time spared enter word India also problem so Shantiniketan rural development society started working with health sector cooperating with the govt health department and we start the plan first village people and slum people make aware about corona symptoms and what are the salutation to clear the problem so we start given example to make a social distance ware a face mask wash hand with every one hour once then we control the covid19 cases in our area and villages.
